Parents/ Guardians of division 7 and 8,
Division 7 (Mrs. Badgley’s class) and division 8 (Mr. Hampton’s class) are planning a field to Science World in Vancouver, on Monday, April 15th. Students will be visiting the various galleries and displays, as well as participating in ‘Modeling Math with Finch Robots’. We will be travelling to and from Science World by Vancouver Charter Bus. We will be leaving Alex Hope at 8:45 am and returning by approximately 2:20. The cost of the bus and admission to Science World is a total of $20.00, to be paid on school cash online. This is a reduced price, as the PAC is paying a portion of the cost. We need 5-6 parents/guardians from each class to assist us in supervising students, as they explore the galleries and participate in the tech program. There will be approximately 5 students in each group. Unfortunately, there is not room on the bus for parents; transportation would be the parents’ responsibility. Carpooling might be a great option. Parent admission to Science World will be covered and the cost of parking will be reimbursed.
Parents, please complete the form below regarding supervision of students at Science World, complete the consent form on the next page, for student participation, and pay the field trip fee by April 5th. Payment should be made on school cash online.
Thank you so much,
Mrs. Badgley and Mr. Hampton

A letter went home today regarding a field trip to the Sportsplex Arena, for a session of ice skating. Please show to a parent. A copy of the letter is below. Permission forms are not included below.
November 2023
Dear Parents and Students,
Division 7 and 8 are planning a field trip is to the Sportsplex Arena for a session of ice-skating. The date of the field trip is Tuesday, December 12th. We will be leaving the school at 9:40 am. Our skating time is from 10:15 to 11:15.
We need the commitment of 6-8 parent drivers, for each class, for this field trip to work.
At the ice rink, it would be helpful to have at least 3 parents assist students with obtaining skate rentals and with tying the skates of beginner skaters. Once students are on the ice, parent volunteers are welcome to skate or watch, but are not requiredto stay at the arena. Parent drivers will need to be back at the arena by 11:20 for the pick-up of their group and for the drive back to school.
The cost of the rink rental is being covered by PAC funds. Thank you to the PAC. For students needing to rent skates and/or helmets, the cost is $5.00 for skates and $2.00 for helmets. Payment for rentals needs to made through School Cash Online,on the Alex Hope School website.
All students and adults on the ice must wear a helmet. It is mandatory, as required by the Langley School District.
Students interested in playing hockey during the skating session are permitted to do so. A portion of the rink will be used for this purpose. Students will need to bring their own hockey stick and gloves and must wear a hockey helmet with a cage and a neck guard. If you are able, please bring a hockey puck.
Please complete the ‘Parent Permission’ form for the field trip. It can be accessed on School Cash Online. For adults willing to drive or assist at the arena, please complete the ‘Volunteer’ form attached to this letter. Volunteer drivers, please complete the attached ‘Volunteer Automobile Driver Authorization’ form. A photocopy of your driver’s license, driver’s abstract and of your car insurance needs to be submitted to the school office by Wednesday, December 6th, at the latest. This information only needs to be completed once over the school year, except updating insurance forms that expire.
Please return all forms and complete payment by Wednesday, December 6th.
For any questions, please contact Mrs. Badgley or Mr. Hampton at the school: 604-888-7109 or through e-mail [email protected] or [email protected] or in person.

The September class newsletter went home today. A copy of it is below.
September 2023
Hello Parents/Guardians,
My name is Mrs. Shereen Badgley. I am the grade 6 division 7 teacher for the
2023-24 school year. I am really looking forward to working with the students and parents of this year’s class. I expect it to be a year of great growth, learning, new experiences and fun activities.
I have a class website: mrssbadgley.weebly.com . It informs students and parents about topics of learning, assignments, tests, projects, special events, field trips and classroom news. Each class newsletter I send home will also be posted on the class website. Please take the time to orient yourself and your grade 6 child with each page of the website. It will be updated daily and should be checked by your child each day.
Students will need a school agenda. This resource is very important for the establishment and maintenance of a strong work management system. It is designed to help students be prepared and organized for class activities and to help guide the completion of assignments. The cost is $5 and is available for purchase immediately through School Cash Online on the Alex Hope school website. Please submit payment by Friday, September 15th. Students will be expected to take their agenda home each afternoon and bring it back to class in the morning. Please sign the agenda each school day, confirming that the agenda has been read and items in the agenda pocket have been received. This process not only helps your child establish a strong work ethic, but it also provides you with a snapshot of your child ‘s work habits and academic progress.
At such time that your child utilizes the agenda independently and consistently, the parent signature will not be required. Parent and guardians are also encouraged to use the agenda to communicate with me and to write reminders for their child.
Please ensure all school supplies are labelled with the child’s name or initials and brought to school Tuesday, September 12th, if possible. If you need assistance obtaining any items, please let me know. Duo-tangs are necessary for this class and will be supplied by Mrs. Badgley. Payment for this set of 9 du0-tangs can be purchased for $1.80 (in total) on the Alex Hope school website, through School Cash Online.
Students in our class will have some homework. Usually, it is work that is not finished in the allotted class time. Occasionally, students will have work that is assigned as homework. There will also be subject work to review, skills to practise and assessments to prepare for, at home. Please encourage your child to have a routine for working on their learning tasks and goals at home. A productive time of the day and a distraction-free space are important for success in this area. Students are also encouraged to read for at least 20 minutes a day and to incorporate physical and social activities into their daily routine.
There are a few subject areas students need to be prepared for by next week. P.E. is scheduled for Wednesdays 1:20-1:50 and Fridays 1:50-2:20. Students are required to wear indoor athletic runners with non-slip, non-marking soles. Students are encouraged to wear shorts or athletic pants and a t-shirt on P.E. days or bring their gym clothes and use the gym change room. Library (book exchange) is every Thursday from 1:45-2:20. All students in the class will participate in two Performing Arts blocks with Ms. Cowie. More information on Ms. Cowie’s Performing Arts program can be found at https://teachers.sd35.bc.ca/mscowiemusic/ The Performing Arts blocks are Tuesdays 1:35-2:20 and Thursdays 11:17-1:47. A complete class schedule is available on our class website. Please keep in mind that the class schedule can change from day to day. Students should be prepared for all subjects each day.
With the health and safety of students and staff in mind, we all will be washing our hands often: each time we enter the classroom and before and after eating. Having a personal hand sanitizer at their desk would be beneficial for additional hand cleaning.
Alex Hope is a nut aware school (no longer a nut free school). We have no known food allergies in the class. I am celiac (intolerance to wheat, rye and barley), but it should have no bearing on what students bring for their snacks and lunch at school. It is important for students to stay hydrated throughout the day. Students are encouraged to use a leak proof, reusable water bottle that is washed and re-filled with water daily. Students get hungry at different times of the day (not just recess and lunch). Eating at their desks during the day is permitted, as long as the snacks are healthy, not messy and don’t interfere with their academic productivity.
If your child arrives late to school, it is important they check-in at the office, prior to entering the classroom. Please email me prior to any preplanned absences. Call the school and/or email me on mornings of unexpected absences such as illness. With this information, I am able to properly plan and support your child’s transition back to school.
Students had their Microsoft 365 account reset and is ready to use. Students will be writing their username and password min their agenda. Soon students will be set up on Microsoft Teams. Some assignments will be assigned and handed-in through this platform.
Meet the Teacher is Wednesday, September 20 from 5:00 to 6:00. Your child is an integral part of the Meet the Teacher event and is encouraged to attend with parents/guardians. The format for the evening in Mrs. Badgley’s class includes students introducing parents/guardians to Mrs. Badgley, providing a tour of the classroom and sharing their progress on academic activities. All school classrooms will be painted this year, starting in late September, with our classroom (West 23) scheduled to be painted first. Therefore, unfortunately the classroom is looking rather boring and bare; all items have been removed from our classroom walls. Colour, educational resources, posters, students work etc. will go back up when painting is complete.
Please encourage your child to see me for extra individual help when needed. A few minutes of personalized instruction or support can make a big difference in a child’s learning. I am available before and after school on most days.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for any reason. I am available most days before school (7:15-8:15 am) and after school.

Hampton
